Homeopathic treatments

Homeopathy, from the Greek homios (“similar”) and pathos (“suffering” or “sickness”) is a system of medicine using natural substances- animal, vegetable, and mineral. The principal law upon which homeopathy is based is the Law of Similars, or “Like cures like”. The Law of Similars states that a natural substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can cure symptoms in a person who is ill. Homeopathic treatments stimulate the body to heal itself. The homeopathic principle has been noted as early as 10th century B.C. In the early 1800’s, the German physician Samuel Hahnemann established homeopathy as a scientific discipline.

History

Homeopathy arrived in North America as early as the 1830’s and began to establish practices and even medical schools. Homeopathic remedy kits became popular among early pioneers for the westward trail into uncharted territories. Homeopathic medicine has not only survived the advent of technology-based modern medicine but gained greatly in popularity since the 1970’s. Its efficacy has received confirmation from rigorous scientific studies, some of them published in leading mainstream medical journals. Its proponents have included J.D. Rockefeller, Mahatma Gandhi and members of the British royal family. Homeopathic medicine is included in the original Medicare legislation. Its remedies are regulated by the FDA through the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia Convention of the United States.
